Camp Greenwood Lake takes its name from a beloved song by Brendan Taaffe, long cherished by our camp counselors. The name reflects our belief that camp is not just a physical place. It is a feeling, a community, and something each child helps create.
At Camp Greenwood Lake, we come together to sing, share stories, craft beautiful creations, swim, canoe, build fires, laugh, play games, and truly connect. Campers join small age based groups led by their counselors, where they share wholesome meals, go on daily adventures, and form bonds that become a kind of family away from home.
The joy and laughter, the challenge of learning something new, and the experience of living together create a community that nurtures each child’s heart and mind, leaving them with memories and lessons that stay with them throughout the year.

What to Expect: A Day At Camp Greenwood Lake
Mornings
As the sun rises, counselors and staff greet the day with song, their voices carrying gently through camp as they visit each cabin and wake sleepy campers. Counselors stay with their groups, helping everyone get ready for the day by brushing teeth, showering, and putting on fresh clothes.
We take a few moments to stretch, breathe, and hear an opening verse or poem, allowing everyone to ease into the rhythm of the new day. While mornings are filled with excitement, we focus on starting slowly, giving each child the chance to settle into themselves.
When the camp bell rings, it is time for breakfast. Our homemade, comforting meal brings us all together. It is a time to share stories, talk about dreams from the night before, and laugh with friends while looking ahead to the day. During breakfast, we also hear announcements, activity plans, and the day’s weather.
Afternoons
As the morning activities wind down, we gather again for lunch. Groups line up and are called in one by one, and we bless the meal together before enjoying another home-cooked lunch. It is a time to reconnect and share stories from the morning.
After lunch and cleanup, we enter a quiet rest period. Campers can nap, relax in hammocks, read, draw, or simply rest. This pause allows everyone to catch their breath and recharge for the afternoon.
When rest time ends, it is time for a snack and then a full afternoon of activity. These may take place with a small group or the whole camp and can include swimming, canoeing, paddleboarding, games, exploring, helping with meal preparation, and taking part in camp traditions.
As dinner approaches, activities begin to wind down. Campers gather near the main site for pre dinner games, showers, or quiet time before coming together again for the evening meal.
Evenings
Evenings begin with dinner, our final shared meal of the day. Groups gather around their tables, sharing stories from the day’s adventures, trying new foods, and already beginning to imagine what tomorrow will bring. As the sun sets and the air cools, the camp grows quieter and more peaceful.
After dinner, the kitchen is cleaned, campers add an extra layer for warmth, and there is a little time to relax before evening assembly. Unlike the more energetic mornings, this gathering has a calm and reverent mood. Groups walk in together, and we sing gentle evening songs as we prepare to wind down.
The assembly begins with the lighting of our camp candles, marking the passing of each day. With every new candle, we acknowledge the time we have spent together and the day coming to a close. We sing, listen to our ongoing camp story told by the storyteller, and end with a final song and spoken verse. Set beside the lake and the fading sunset, it is a peaceful and memorable way to end the day.
After assembly, groups spend quiet time together. Some may gather around a small campfire, fill water bottles, brush teeth, or share stories. Counselors read or tell a bedtime story before lights out. As campers settle in, staff meet to reflect on the day and prepare for tomorrow, staying nearby until the last campers drift off to sleep so that everyone feels safe and at home.
